Position Summary / Job Goals

To deliver high-quality Visual Arts instruction that sets ambitious expectations and supports all learners in achieving strong academic outcomes. The Visual Arts Teacher will create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment that promotes creativity, critical thinking, artistic expression, and mastery of visual arts concepts, techniques, and processes.

Qualifications / Training

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Visual Arts or a related field.
• Teaching certification or equivalent professional training.
• Strong pedagogical understanding of Visual Arts instruction, assessment, and differentiation.
• Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development.
  
  

Experience / Knowledge

• Demonstrates expert knowledge of Visual Arts content and effective instructional practices.
• Designs coherent sequences of lessons that deepen artistic understanding and develop technical and conceptual skills.
• Uses formative and summative assessment to guide instruction, diagnose learning needs, and provide actionable feedback.
• Understands how young people develop and personalizes instruction based on ability, background, interests, and learning needs.
• Creates and maintains high expectations for student progress, behavior, and classroom culture.
• IB and/or AP Visual Arts experience is preferred.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

• Set ambitious expectations for all students and take responsibility for their academic progress in Visual Arts.
• Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that promote creativity, artistic exploration, and higher-order thinking.
• Create a safe, respectful, and stimulating classroom environment rooted in high standards of behavior and mutual respect.
• Use assessment data to monitor learning, adjust instruction, differentiate support, and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
• Communicate regularly with parents and colleagues regarding student progress, achievement, and wellbeing.
• Participate actively in professional learning, reflect on teaching practice, and implement strategies to improve student outcomes.
• Contribute to extracurricular activities, exhibitions, school events, and wider Nord Anglia Education initiatives, fostering collaboration and global citizenship.
• Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and the school’s values in all interactions.
