Location: Bay Area
Salary: $16.90 per hour
Role of Position: Provide family support and engage families of deaf and hard of hearing children throughout the CA Early Hearing Detection & Intervention system (EHDI) and the Newborn Hearing Screening Program connecting families of LEA with the Early Start Referral process.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage and support families through virtual (phone, video, email).
- Work closely and coordinate with local Deaf Coach service coordinators to support families as they navigate the early intervention system.
- Provide families with Parent Profile pamphlets and information on how to request Deaf Coach services through IFSP or IEP and information about local resources; answer questions that families want to know about the experience of raising DHH children.
- Participate in Learning Community meetings and other opportunities as needed for purpose of collaborating with professionals serving the families to strengthen the programs capacity.
- Report data information in central database management system.
- Share local resources and events with families such as annual Love & Literacy.
- Report to LEAD-K Family Services Manager.
Qualifications: Must have in-depth knowledge and experience as a parent of a D/HH child. Knowledge of ASL and familiarity with deafness required. Strong communication skills, leadership, active listening and a non-judgmental attitude. Knowledge of community parent resources and ability to develop referral sources. Computer experience and ability to research Internet and use Outlook. Willingness to travel occasionally to locations within California. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good organization skills. Ability function as a team player. Ability to effectively network and develop relationships with other entities. Must have valid CA driver’s license and current automobile insurance or reliable means of transportation. Preference if parent of a DHH child. Trilingual is a plus.
Education: College courses and or degree preferred but not required.
Experience: Knowledge and experience with the overall Early Intervention Programs, IFSP or IEPs for DHH children, Learning Communities, and the Deaf Coach program. Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), IDEA, and other related laws.
