The Sander/Blaster smooths surfaces of items, such as automobile or applicant components, prior to finishing operations.
The incumbent will work 8-hour shifts, Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Some overtime work may be required.
Essential Job Functions
- Grind, sand, clean or polish objects to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
- Polish ground areas will finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface.
- Mark defects for repair.
- Measure and mark equipment, objects and parts to ensure grinding standards are met.
- Record product and processing data on specified form.
- Load and adjust workpieces onto equipment or worktables and inspect the surface of the workpiece for defects.
- Verify the quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them, comparing them to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing them in working machinery.
- Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels and belts as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or demonstrated competence.
- Read and understand instructions in English.
- Basic addition and subtraction.
- Read simple mechanical blueprints.
- Ability to stand in one place for extended periods of time with continuous arm motion throughout the day.
- Perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
Preferred Experience
- Previous manufacturing environment experience.
