Position SummaryThe Area Director is responsible for overseeing multiple preschool sites, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission, policies, procedures and state licensing requirements. This role directly supervises Site Supervisors and manages program administration, budgeting and community outreach. The Area Director also ensures effective human resources practices, monitors program quality and supports strategic growth through innovative program development and marketing efforts.Compensation & BenefitsThe compensation for this position is $95,000 - $105,000. We provide a safe learning environment for all children to reach their potential.Essential Position ResponsibilitiesProgram AdministrationOperation of the preschool’s programs in accordance with the policies, procedures, mission and philosophies of the school.Maintain facility and ensure State Licensing and funder qualifications/requirements are met.Act as liaison between staff, families, community, funders and the President/CEO.Ensure all policies and procedures are followed.Supervise the implementation of licensing, safety procedures and curriculum.Responsible for the recruitment, registration, enrollment and maintenance of the wait list.Plan school year calendar while meeting funder requirements and community needs.Review and approve annual program calendars and schedule for teachers and support staff.Implement annual Parenting Class curriculum and calendar.Administer and evaluate ASQ and DRDP evaluation tools.Oversee staff training, ensuring the highest quality and highest scores on annual CLASS and/or ECERS reviews.Manage IEP referral process and assist parents with IEP evaluations.Implement strategies to recruit and increase enrollment.Ensure compliance with licensing requirements and government rules or requirements.Implement creative and innovative program and curriculum.Employee SupervisionLead with accountability, integrity and alignment with the organization’s values.Directly supervise Site Supervisors, including delegation and performance management (recognition, annual reviews, ongoing performance feedback).Provide support and leadership for teachers.Conduct staff meetings and annual trainings.Follow school disciplinary action policy with approval by the President/CEO.Lead staff by encouragement and provide opportunities for team building and collaboration.Human Resources AdministrationRecruitment, hiring and supervision of staff with final approval from the President/CEO.Maintain employee files and payroll reports.Prepare offer letters for employees.FinanceWork closely with President/CEO to develop annual budget.Manage expenses with approval from the President/CEO to ensure the budget is followed.Process tuition payments.Analyze annual program, operating and administrative expenses to determine if changes are needed.With the Site Supervisors and President/CEO, develop annual enrollment targets to maximize revenues.Ensure financial statements are provided to the President/CEO and financial reports are prepared for funders.MarketingAttend community events and meetings related to early childhood education or other events to promote the school or for educational opportunities.Ensure quality and consistency of collateral materials, newsletters, advertising and other publicly available information.Cultivate key community, government, corporate, philanthropic and political relationships.Provide community outreach, becoming involved in relevant organizations and educational programs.Represent the school positively and network to meet community leaders and other colleagues.QualificationsBachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience required.Currently hold or be eligible for a Child Development Program Director's Permit through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.Master’s degree in child development or a related field preferred.At least 7 years of early childhood experience.At least 5 years of experience supervising a team.Experience and in depth knowledge and experience with CLASS and ECERS.Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).Commitment to the mission of high-quality, inclusive early childhood education.Remain current on early childhood education trends and California employment law.Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines and complete projects.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships.Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents and employees.Ability to work collaboratively and respond to the individual needs of children.Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.Strong detail orientation, organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.Understand and manage the complexities of a large preschool program.Establish and maintain good relationships with parents, children and staff.Basic understanding of accounting principles and finance.Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.How to ApplyThank you for your interest in the Area Director opportunity!
