The Safety Coordinator at Nomad GCS will collaborate and coordinate within Operations and under the general direction of Management to develop, implement, and manage Nomad GCS’s safety program. This position conducts safety inspections and training, reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments, and designs programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, or ergonomic factors. The Safety Coordinator will also conduct inspections and support adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITY:



Safety Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Safety Manager of the Columbia Falls facility to ensure that all safety measures and documentation are established and completed for the Libby facility relative to OSHA rules and regulations, in the event of corporate documentation review by OSHA and/or OSHA onsite visits.
  • Chair the Libby facility Safety Committee.
  • Daily floor presence is required to support staff and perform general safety audits.
  • Interface with VP of People Operationson workplace injuries.
  • Collaborate with Management and employees to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Conduct safety training and education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Coordinate “right-to-know” programs regarding hazardous chemicals and other substances.
  • Develop and maintain hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, etc.
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, and safety equipment. 
  • Effectively communicate with vendors when needed, such as regarding our first-aid supplies being replenished in our first-aid kits in both buildings, monthly. 
  • Investigate and report to the Safety Committee and the VP of People Operations,accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
  • Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Comfortable with ordering immediate suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health and safety.
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.

  • Oversee SDS catalog.

  • Take on additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular use of hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and crawling.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Assistance required for anything heavier than 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors.
    • Must have the physical stamina to work in awkward positions and stand for prolonged periods.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Partially environmentally controlled indoor area with temperatures fluctuating between 60°F and 100°F, typically maintained around 70°F.
  • Occasional outdoor work required.
  • Exposure to noise levels ranging from low to loud; safety hearing devices provided as needed.
  • Possible exposure to household and commercial chemicals; adherence to safety protocols outlined in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) required.
  • Mandatory wearing of OSHA-approved safety eyewear and closed-toed shoes at all times on the production floor.
  • Use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators or protective coveralls, may be necessary for specific tasks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High level of knowledge related to safety and wellbeing in production, manufacturing, and/or construction-related industriesthrough proven OSHA and EPA certifications.
  • Ability to apply laws and regulations to work environment to ensure safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • 2 years in a dedicated safety role within a manufacturing environment.
