The team you'll be part of
Nokia Technologies is focused on licensing Nokia intellectual property, including patents, technologies and the Nokia brand, building on Nokia's continued innovation and decades of R&D leadership in technologies used in virtually all connected devices used today.
The Multimedia Technologies unit develops state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies and system solutions. We drive the standardization of future media technologies in leading standardization organizations.
What you will learn and contribute to
We are offering a Scientist/Engineer position for a software expert in video codec design and implementations for new codec tools and systems. The primary location for this position is Tampere, Finland. We can also consider other locations (e.g. Munich, Germany or San Diego, USA).
- You will implement and test new video codec algorithms and features for next generation video codecs and systems
- Contribute to research that leads to technology transfer, publications, and Intellectual Property.
- You will also have a chance to develop your skills towards novel video coding algorithm development.
Your skills and experience
To succeed in this exciting role, we expect you to have the following qualifications:
- At least a M.Sc. degree with 3 years of relevant experience in implementations related to video codecs or image/video processing algorithms.
- Excellent software development skills in C and C .
- Demonstrated capability in high-quality software implementation of signal processing algorithms.
- Excellent knowledge in the area of video compression.
- Hands-on expertise in the latest video coding standards, such as HEVC and VVC.
- Good verbal English communication and presentation skills.
The following additional skills or experience are valued:
- Knowledge on different software environments, such as cloud and GPU environments
- Python and related machine learning frameworks
- Knowledge on common multimedia communication protocols and formats, such as the Real-time Transport Protocol, MPEG-2 transport stream, and the ISO base media file format as well as video system specifications, such as MPEG-DASH.
