POSITION: Assistant Program Director of After-School Program / Part-Time
The Noel Pointer Foundation (NPF) is seeking an Assistant Program Director (APD) for its After-School Program. This is a part-time position that follows the DOE’s school year calendar (with the potential of a summer program). The APD will work at a DOE facility located in South Ozone Park, NY, whose participants are middle school students, ranging in grades from 6-8.
The APD will report directly to the Program Director (PD), and will assist with the management and supervision of a school-based, After-School Program. Responsibilities include involvement in all aspects of daily program operations. The APD will also be assigned administrative duties, including data entry, and must be organized and efficient in multi-tasking. Additional tasks will be assigned on an as-needed basis to accomplish program goals. Computer literacy and strong organizational skills are required. A collaborative spirit, skillset in supporting middle school students with building and navigating peer relationships as well as a positive can-do attitude are essential for this position.
The ideal candidate must possess an employment history that includes working with agencies such as DYCD and DOHMH to ensure that NPF maintains an emotionally and physically safe environment for students that meet all compliance and safety requirements set forth by the organization and said agencies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Management of daily operations, including communicating with the school's administration, teachers, and secretaries, as well as the cafeteria and custodial staff;
- Build strong relationships with the school principal and administrative team to facilitate seamless integration of NPF staff and expanded hours into the overall school culture;
- Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders (participants, parents, school staff and administration, the community, DYCD, DOHMH, and NPF);
- Familiarity with DYCD and DOHMH regulations and meets all contractual obligations, specifically in registration, enrollment, rate of participation, and student-teacher ratio;
- Maintain up-to-date documents such as the school partnership memorandum, building permits, and insurance certificates;
- Create staff and activity schedules, ensure logistics such as snack and program spaces are arranged, plan trips, submit supply requests, and address programmatic needs;
- Recruitment of participants, which may include calling, e-mailing, posting announcements, holding information sessions, encouraging students, answering applicant questions and other strategies to motivate students to enroll and continue participation on a consistent basis;
- Ensure that student attendance is being properly collected, stored, and recorded; and meet deadlines for data entry into DYCD Connect (program database);
- Conduct classroom observations, and address concerns as they arise;
- Maintain current staff and student files, incident and accident reports, and other required documentation and student data;
- Ensure all staff have appropriate training certificates and clearance documents on-site;
- Ensure that timesheets are accurately completed and submitted to Payroll on time;
- Collaborate with Educational Specialist and instructors to build and implement best-in-class systems, processes, procedures, and tools to support educational curriculum;
- Collaborate with program staff to present mid-year and/or end-year student exhibitions or performances, and archive photographs of student events and activities;
- Ensure students and their families are properly informed and prepared for all special events, holidays, DOE School closures, and After-School Program closures;
- Prepare and distribute written materials, including flyers, brochures, newsletters, and posting on the school’s bulletin board, and the After-School Program’s door;
- Complete all required DYCD and OCFS trainings, as well as any other required licensing trainings; and
- Create a strong sense of community which values respect, acceptance, and high expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree required with preference in Education or a related field.
- Two (2) years direct experience, working with children less than 13 years of age.
- One (1) year working in a supervisory capacity with adults in a child care program or related field of work.
- First Aid CPR AED Certified
