Nodaway Valley Community School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator to join our team immediately. We are currently accepting applications for a High School Special Education Paraeducator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Instructional Support
- Assist the teacher with delivering lessons and reinforcing concepts
- Work with small groups or individual students for targeted support
- Help adapt materials to meet diverse learning needs
2. Student Support
- Provide one-on-one assistance for students with academic, behavioral, or physical needs
- Support students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum
- Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement
3. Classroom Management
- Help maintain a positive, structured learning environment
- Monitor student behavior and reinforce expectations
- Assist with transitions, routines, and organization
4. Behavioral and Social Support
- Implement behavior intervention plans under teacher direction
- Model appropriate social skills and interactions
- Help de-escalate challenging situations when needed
5. Clerical and Organizational Tasks
- Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources
- Assist with data collection and record-keeping
- Supervise students during non-instructional times
6. Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Share observations about student progress and needs
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
7. Personal Care (when applicable)
- Assist students with mobility, hygiene, feeding, or medical needs as required.
