Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.

USD $71,800.00 - USD $112,150.00 /Yr.
Noblis is seeking a Scientist I with a strong background in molecular biology to work with Noblis subject matter experts and scientists to design and execute experiments in the lab to:
- Advance cell culture strategies, bioengineering, and bioprinting capabilities.
- Design and demonstrate novel qPCR/PCR/LAMP assays.
- Innovate workflows for rapid DNA/RNA extraction, next generation sequencing (NGS), and bioinformatic analytics to include engineering detection.
- Must be willing to work on-site in a laboratory setting for at least 5 days a week in Reston, VA.
- Design, execute, optimize, and troubleshoot lab-based molecular biology experiments.
- Develop and validate new experimental protocols and assays; recommend improvements to existing procedures.
- Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot cell and microorganism culture systems.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all experiments according to established procedures.
- Stay abreast of the latest advances in molecular biology techniques, NGS sample preparation methods, sequencing platforms, and bioinformatics.
- Actively participate in scientific/industry symposia, conferences, and professional societies.
- Present at scientific conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute technical content to grants, proposals, white papers, and internal/external documents.
- Update Health and Safety Assessment documents as needed.
- Work autonomously and in a team environment with a positive collegial attitude.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, bioengineering, microbiology, biochemistry, or similar area of study.
- A track record of successfully troubleshooting and optimizing molecular biology techniques
- Strong understanding of molecular biology laboratory techniques including: nucleic acid extraction, cell and microorganism culture, sterile technique, cloning, PCR/qPCR, primer/probe design, gel electrophoresis, and NGS library preparations
- Ability to independently identify experimental problems, diagnose root causes, and implement solutions
- A strong publication record
- Ability to explain deep technical concepts to non-experts
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- A high degree of ethical and scientific standards
- US Citizenship is required
- Experience with molecular biology software tools (e.g., SnapGene, Geneious, Benchling)
- Coding and bioinformatics experience (e.g., Python, R, BLAST, sequence analysis)
- Experience with expression vector design, codon optimization, or synthetic biology cloning methods
- Familiarity with laboratory automation or high-throughput workflows
- Demonstrated ability to propose and win independent research funding
