Location- Either Ashburn, VA or Sterling, VA
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our team for a project-based role. The technician will perform a variety of tasks, including decommissioning hosts, installing NVME drives, configuring ePDUs, racking switches, and running fiber in our data centers. This position requires hands-on experience in data center operations and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Decommissioning Hosts:
o Safely remove servers and other equipment from racks.
o Document hardware decommissioning processes and update asset records using the organization's designated asset management and tracking systems.
o Ensure compliance with data security protocols during hardware disposal.
2. NVME Installations:
o Install NVME drives in servers and ensure proper configuration.
o Perform diagnostic testing using basic Linux commands to verify successful installations.
3. ePDU Configuration:
o Configure ePDUs by setting up IP addresses and ensuring MAC addresses and model numbers are accurately reflected in the Asset Management system.
o Install ePDUs in racks and verify proper power distribution and load balancing.
o Perform functionality tests and update records with accurate configuration details.
4. Racking and Cabling:
o Rack switches and secure equipment following data center best practices.
o Run and manage fiber and network cabling to ensure clean and efficient connectivity.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of installations, configurations, and decommissions.
o Provide status updates to project leads and complete daily task reports.
o Must be familiar with a ticketing system and monitoring a queue.
o Execute work within a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in data center operations or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with hardware installation, decommissioning, and cabling.
- Familiarity with NVME storage, ePDUs, and network switch configurations.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cabling and connectivity standards.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical documentation.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Preferred Skills:
- Basic understanding of networking concepts.
- Familiarity with IT asset management tools and inventory systems.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Server , Cisco CCNA, or equivalent are a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in data centers performing in-depth analysis on servers.
- Ability to understand and communicate technical functions of basic server operations.
- Ability to maintain a professional relationship with customers.
Work Conditions:
- On-site position requiring work in a data center environment.
- Adherence to safety protocols, compliance standards, Customer Security Standards, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
