Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8- or 10-hour shifts | Day Shift | On-Call Rotation
Work Setting: Primarily in-person, with community-based and crisis-response responsibilities
Position Overview
Dixon Social Interactive Services, Inc. (DSIS) is seeking a compassionate and qualified Substance Abuse Counselor to provide clinical services within our Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT) and Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP).
The ideal candidate will hold a North Carolina Medicaid Qualified Professional (QP) credential or CADC certification and have experience providing substance use disorder treatment to adults in an intensive outpatient or similar setting.

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides individual and group counseling, case management, treatment planning, assessments, crisis intervention, and clinical documentation. Services are provided under the supervision of an LCAS or CCS and in accordance with applicable North Carolina behavioral health and Medicaid requirements, including 10A NCAC 27G .0104 and .4400.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and implement Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) for assigned clients.

Provide individual, group, and family counseling services.

Facilitate daily group counseling sessions in accordance with SACOT/SAIOP program requirements.

Conduct ongoing assessments and reassessments of client needs.

Provide case management, service coordination, and community referrals/linkages.

Coordinate biochemical screenings, including urine drug screens, as required.

Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and appropriate safety interventions.

Maintain accurate, timely, and Medicaid-compliant clinical documentation.

Complete service notes that clearly reflect services provided and alignment with client treatment goals.

Ensure documentation and service delivery comply with Medicaid, SACOT/SAIOP, regulatory, and organizational requirements.

Participate in weekly staffing meetings, clinical supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Participate in the organization's 24/7/365 crisis response system, including face-to-face response within two hours when required.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet North Carolina Medicaid Qualified Professional (QP) criteria or CADC requirements.
A Qualified Professional may qualify through one of the following pathways:

A current license, provisional license, certificate, registration, or permit issued by the governing board regulating a human service profession, except as otherwise permitted under applicable NC regulations; or

A master's degree in a human service field and at least one year of full-time post-graduate MH/DD/SA experience; or
-
A bachelor's degree in a human service field and at least two years of full-time post-bachelor's MH/DD/SA experience; or
-
A bachelor's degree in a non-human service field and at least four years of full-time post-bachelor's MH/DD/SA experience.
Education & Credentialing Requirements

Must meet NC Medicaid Qualified Professional (QP) criteria or applicable CADC requirements.

Must be credentialed by, or registered at minimum with, the North Carolina Addiction Specialist Professional Practice Board, as applicable.

Strong understanding of substance use disorder treatment and recovery principles.

Ability to maintain accurate and compliant clinical records.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-
At least 2 years of addiction/substance abuse counseling experience preferred.
-
Previous SACOT, SAIOP, intensive outpatient, or similar behavioral health treatment experience preferred.

Experience working with adults with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health needs.

Familiarity with North Carolina Medicaid documentation and behavioral health regulations.
