Under the supervision of the Advocacy Director, the Children’s Advocate will work with children and adult victims of dating violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault. This position will be responsible for providing services to children/youth and overseeing child/youth programs and recreational activities designed for youth victims (aged 5-17). Hours: M-F 12-8 pm with flexible scheduling as necessary.
Essential Job Functions
- Receive crisis calls and provide immediate crisis intervention for all victims of domestic violence and dating violence.
- Determine eligibility of services and/or give referral sources.
- Complete intake and exit interviews and complete all required documentation on residents and non-residents clients.
- Conduct consistent advocacy and regularly scheduled client casework sessions for children at Noah Project.
- Conduct regularly scheduled in-house life skills meetings for child residents
- Document casework activities on a timely basis including maintaining files and entering data and statistics.
- Perform direct service activities appropriate for children who are victims of domestic violence.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Provide needed accompaniment services.
- Be designated on-call staff as required or requested.
- Carry out other programs and tasks as assigned by the Advocacy Director or the Executive Director.
- Have a working knowledge of Texas laws pertaining to domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as the justice system’s response to both. Have knowledge of mandatory reporting laws.
- Be familiar with legal services, resources, and procedures available to victims and identify legal rights and options as part of individual services plans.
- Assist adult and children shelter residents and non-residents in safety planning and re-evaluation of the safety plan as part of an individual service plan.
- When necessary, assist eligible clients with Crime Victim Compensation, Protective Orders and VINE services.
Core Job Functions
- Provide advocacy and crisis intervention to children/youth in the shelter, including safety planning, shelter orientation within 48 hours and development of action plan/goal setting.
- Coordinate and/or provide childcare to children onsite as needed/appropriate.
- Develop and facilitate children’s/youth group activities/outings (i.e. summer programs, holiday activities, etc.)
- Facilitate parenting classes with community providers.
- Work closely with Victim Advocates to provide coordinated family case management services.
- Coordinate with community agencies to access services and resources for children and youth.
