Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Ocean Supervisor specializing in Freight Forwarding to lead our ocean logistics operations. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the end-to-end management of international freight shipments, ensuring seamless coordination between carriers, clients, and internal teams. Your expertise will drive efficiency in transportation planning, compliance with regulations, and delivery accuracy, all while fostering strong customer relationships. Duties
- Lead and supervise ocean operations staff in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations, including involvement in hiring, training, performance management, and employee development.
- Develop, implement, and maintain operational and administrative procedures to ensure efficient, compliant, and profitable ocean department performance.
- Oversee daily ocean operations to ensure adherence to internal procedures, regulatory requirements (FMC, OSHA), and company standards.
- Monitor compliance activities, including shipment reviews, NVOCC tariff filings, and dissemination of regulatory updates.
- Analyze operational performance and shipping statistics to identify trends, improve efficiency, and support strategic decision-making.
- Coordinate with carriers to negotiate competitive rates and secure space allocations.
- Promote a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment while supporting ongoing training, meetings, and additional management directives.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Some college preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading or supervising others in a freight forwarding operation preferred.
- Proven understanding of the international freight forwarding business and excellent understanding of U.S. FMC regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft applications.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Physical requirements:
- Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
- Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, frequently and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
