Our company-paid classes at Grand Rapids Community College Advanced Technology Center start this Fall. You can begin work immediately or start after you complete high school—then transition into the coursework as it kicks off.
Curriculum Highlights- Safety; precision measuring & layout
- Pedestal grinder and tool sharpening; drilling machines
- Hand tools & benchwork; saw operations
- Milling machines; engine lathe; surface grinder
- Basic CNC programming; Haas CNC mill and Haas CNC lathe
- CAD/CAM/CNC
- Charmilles EDM; Haas CNC laser
- Blueprint reading; shop math; GD&T
- Metallurgy; Machinery’s Handbook; SPC
- Operate lathes, mills, and grinders under supervision to produce precise parts.
- Develop the ability to interpret prints and technical specifications.
- Support experienced machinists with troubleshooting and quality checks.
- Maintain a tidy, safe work area aligned with shop procedures.
- Participate in workshops and training to expand your capabilities.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance on shop equipment.
- Collaborate with the team to achieve production targets and meet schedules.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
- Introductory knowledge of machining tools/processes helpful, not required.
