Qualifications:
Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements:Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
LicensureFor all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements above, you must have 4 years of graduate training in the Occupational Medicine specialty or equivalent experience and training.
Responsibilities:
You will serve as a Supervisory Occupational Medicine Physician for Mariner Health Certification and be responsible for managing the department's processes and staff to ensure all decisions are in line with the Division Chief for the Merchant Mariner Medical Certification Program of determining if mariners are medically fit for certification.

- Leading and supervising the Medical Evaluation Division work force. Providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit of staff
- Performing the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised, and establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members
- Directing and overseeing the development of the Merchant Mariner Medical Certification Program that requires determination of medical suitability, fitness for certification, unit acquisition of resources, and resource utilization
- Developing, approving and managing the budget for all Division activities; ensuring all financial and budgeting guidelines are established and followed by unit personnel
- Providing consultation and advice in the development of guidelines for merchant mariner medical suitability and fitness for certification determinations
