Saw Operator

The Saw Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating saws and angle line (beamworker)

equipment to cut and process structural steel and materials according to specifications. This role includes

material handling, basic machine maintenance, and maintaining inventory organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily.

Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of management.

Machine Operation & Cutting

• Read and interpret cut lists, work codes, and technical drawings for accurate material cuts.
• Safely operate industrial saws to cut steel and required materials.
• Adjust machine settings, change saw blades, and maintain adequate coolant levels.

Angle Line / Beamworker Operation:

• Read blueprints to program angle line machines for required cut lengths and hole placement.
• Select, install, and change out punches and dies as needed.

Material Handling & Staging:

• Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to load/unload materials onto machinery and delivery trucks.
• Store materials safely in designated racks or route directly to production lines.
• Securely band finished materials together and mark with Job Number, Drawing Number, and assigned Leadman.

Inventory & Maintenance:

• Maintain safe, clean, and organized steel storage racks.
• Assist with inventory tasks, including separating, counting, and tagging materials.

Skills and Qualification

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Technical/vocational training, conveyor system experience, and overhead crane/forklift operation experience preferred.
• Ability to read both inch and metric tape measures.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret cutlists for engineering drawings.
• Willingness and ability to learn saw operation (on-the-job training provided).
