What does a Manager of Clinical Services and Workforce Development do?

Under the direction of leadership, the Manager, Clinical Services and Workforce Development will oversee tracking and monitoring of clinical service initiatives, inclusive of population health and various system-wide improvement initiatives. The position will also be responsible for developing orientation programs, training, and professional development for clinical and non-clinical staff across the medical group and in collaboration with the hospital, and function as a liaison across the system.

What does a typical day on the job look like?

  • Oversees execution, development, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for all clinical services within population health including care management, remote patient monitoring, and other clinical service initiatives developed (e.g., ER utilization reduction, and readmission reduction).
  • Oversees the development and implementation of system-wide workforce development initiatives. These include the Medical Assistant academy, MA to LPN/RN development programs, workforce leadership initiatives, and ongoing staff development opportunities.
  • Manages Medical Assistant Academy and development. This includes participating in hiring interviews, participant selection, and overall coordination of the medical assistant training program. Lead on-site study days with EMR training, what to expect with curriculum, how to study for the CCMA exam, assist with skills training and check-off on those skills completed on-site (vital signs, glucometer, suture, and staple removal). Rotate through clinics to check-in, help train, and support clinic preceptors and Academy participants. Complete a post-program completion check-in with Academy participant 1 month after successful completion of the program.
  • Manages and coordinates the orientation of clinical and non-clinical staff. Presents information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercise, group discussions, videos, and lectures. Trains and incorporates standardized workflow utilizing the EMR. Leverages teammates across Meritas to improve training efforts and hold clinical and non-clinical staff accountable.
  • Oversees rollout of technology and people, process, and technology functions to implement clinical services. Works with and across a variety of disciplines to implement clinical services to improve patient care and meet the organization’s strategic plan for Population Health and other clinical services.
  • Participates in talent life cycle management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orientation, mentoring, development, engagement, retention, performance management and time keeping of Population Health team and MA Academy students.

What are the requirements for the job?

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, required; Master’s degree preferred
  • RN (Registered Nurse) license in the state of Missouri
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience required; 5 years’ experience preferred; minimum 3 years population health experience required; 5 years preferred
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) from AHA (American Heart Association)
  • Displays a high level of flexibility, adaptability, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to develop training materials and present group training sessions that are well received and produce a demonstrated improvement in staff performance.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills as demonstrated by the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills characterized by tact, diplomacy, and articulateness.
  • Basic computer skills, self-motivating, participates as a positive team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities.
