Summary
Supports the Sr. Director, Safety Training & Promotion; Occupational Health & Safety in the management, implementation and maintenance of NJ TRANSIT’s Environmental Safety & Industrial Hygiene and Compliance Safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory safety requirements.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Direct the development and implementation of Environmental Occupational Safety and
- Oversee the performance of comprehensive observations, inspections and audits of facilities and employees’ activities to ensure compliance with NJ TRANSIT’s safety systems and programs, to ensure compliance with regulatory safety requirements.
- Coordinates with the NJ TRANSIT’s Environmental, Energy, and Sustainability (EES) department to assess and evaluate environmental exposures and incidents. Recommends corrective actions to mitigate exposure to a practicable level in addition to providing oversight on remediation
- Oversee programmed facility audits, utilizing Job Safety Analysis procedures and the Hazard.
- Identification/Resolution Process (MIL Std. 882e); perform follow-up assessments
- Act as NJ Transit’ Right-to-Know Administrator.
- Provide training support to implement safety program compliance
- Direct the oversight and performance of activities associated with risk assessments to identify. workplace hazards and recommend safety measures.
- Direct the review of chemical products and PPE to minimize exposure to employees, customers, and the public.
- Oversee the review of Occupational Safety and Health and Industrial Hygiene training programs for NJ TRANSIT employees as required.
- Exposure assessment scope development, Industrial Hygiene monitoring, and post assessment analysis.
- Act as liaison between Compliance/Legal Counsel and field management.
- Initiate safety programs to address regulatory compliance deficiencies.
- Responsible for written procedures, communication to affected business units, to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Completes any other projects as assigned by the Sr. Director, Safety Training & Promotion; Occupational Health & Safety.
- Sr. Occupational Health Spec
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Engineering or Chemistry and ten (10) years of experience in the safety field including management and
Knowledge And Skills
- Knowledge of Occupational Environmental and Safety principles and systems is required. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local safety regulations and standards.
- OSHA 30 Hour General Industry Training-Desirable
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) -Desirable
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Desirable
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) – Desirable
- Transit Bus and/or Rail System Safety, and SMS Principles for Transit Certification – Desirable
- Transportation and Security program Certificate (TSSP – Transit Bus and/or Rail Program) –
- World Safety Organization (WSO), Certified Safety Manager
