• Check bus fluids and maintain required levels
• Change fluids
• Clean inside and around buses
• Shift and drive buses in and around the garage
• Steam engines
• Change tires (utilizing the appropriate equipment)
• Complete forms required in carrying out duties of the position

Training :

NJ TRANSIT’s Maintenance Department offers a six (6) day, comprehensive job-related training for all new Servicepersons at our Training Facility in Newark, NJ.

NJ TRANIST’s Bus Operational Training Department offers up to 30 days of classroom instruction to assist new Serviceperson hires with obtaining a NJ Commercial Learner’s Permit, which is an essential requirement of the Serviceperson position.

In order to have sucessful job placement and continued employment with NJ TRANSIT as a Serviceperson :

• Upon receiving an offer, you must purchase an CDL Permit Examination Ticket at a NJ MVC location, and complete the IdentoGo fingerprinting process prior to starting
• All new hires must obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) valid in the state of New Jersey within thirty (30) days of their start date.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications :

• Light professional mechanical experience preferred; diesel experience a plus but not required
• Be twenty-one years (21) years of age
• Possess a valid NJ Driver’s License with three (3) years of driving experience
• Must be eligible to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement or possess a valid NY / PA CDL with Passenger and Airbrake endorsement
• Be able to work any shift in keeping with seniority-based scheduling. Hours vary depending upon the Bus Garage.
• Be able to pass the pre-employment physical and background checks
• Have a good driving record with less than five (5) points
