General Summary:

The Quality Specialist is responsible for collaborating with all areas of clinical operations to assure tissue donor records meet established guidelines.  Provides quality reviews of tissue donor records, data entry, collect and distribute all donor related information, obtain final tissue donor serology results and document findings through quality assessment tools provided.  Reviews and completes organ culture documentation and reporting using the provided quality assessment tools, ensuring compliance with OPTN policies. Supports the Clinical Department and participates in education activities and meetings associated with organ and tissue donation.  Responsible for timely compliance with all Network programs and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions: 

  • Performs initial reviews on tissue donor records and attachments for accuracy and completeness and forwards same to the participating tissue processors within ten business days of the recovery.  Utilizes department tools and spreadsheets to document activities. Organizes hardcopy and electronic files and attachments. 
  • Follows department protocols and processes.  Documents require information and communicates pertinent information to the department manager and/or director.
  • Organizes hardcopy and electronic files and attachments.
  • Communicates with staff members to request corrections.  
  • Receives indicator reports, pending lists, and other information from tissue partners/partner portals.  Obtains pending information (serology, cultures, etc.) and sends to respective partners. 
  • Obtains and reports cultures as needed.
  • Closes tissue donor files upon notification from the processor and/or through periodic checks of databases and pending lists giving the donors’ status.
  • Onsite staff provides back-up for serology notification process, scanning of recovery documents, AOPO number assignments, ME picture process and processing of incoming information from laboratories and tissue partners.
  • Attends all staff meetings and appropriate meetings related to the position.
  • Onsite staff must be readily available on location to develop and maintain relationships and to interact with staff to perform any/all responsibilities and duties of the position. 
  • Communicates effectively with all staff to solicit necessary additions or corrections.  
  • Conduct internal audits to assess compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of one year of Quality Assurance or work-related experience required. 
  • Proficient basic knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Professional required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Certified Tissue Bank Specialist preferred.

Pay Range: 

Hourly: $27.34 - $41.04

This salary range is based on our market pay structures. Individual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to business needs, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, licenses, certifications, education, and experience.
