Scope of Eligibility

Open to permanent employees who work for the Division of Environmental Evaluation & Remediation Review and meet the requirements below.

Description

Under general supervision of a division director or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, independently initiates and coordinates a research or developed program in a specified professional field; may supervise lower levels of Research Scientists and other technical staff, manages high level technical projects and reports results

to designated officials for inter- and intra-agency response; does related work.

Specific to the Position

Must be technically proficient and experienced in several of the following topics: remediation standards setting and compliance; human-health or ecological risk assessment; vapor intrusion; historic and alternative fill; emerging contaminants; and other site remediation topic; must also have a proven ability to lead Research Scientist titled staff; will lead a group within the Environmental Evaluation Section (EES), and will provides technical guidance and mentor Research Scientist staff, assign work tasks and conduct administrative and personnel related tasks. These tasks may include completing ePARS and time sheets in a timely manner, evaluating staff performance and recommending promotions. Participates in complex Technical Consultations with members of the regulated community, supports higher levels of management on case specific and more wide-ranging guidance and policy issues. Assists in litigation support of high profile cases.

Preferred Skill Set

Proven ability to apply a broad background of scientific knowledge as well as the rules, regulations and guidance applicable to the Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment program, particularly relating to remediation standards setting and compliance; human-health or ecological risk assessment; vapor intrusion; historic and alternative fill; emerging contaminants; and other site remediation topics. Experience with mentoring highly technical/scientific staff and demonstrate leadership.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.

Experience

Four (4) years of full-time experience in a field appropriate to the position.

NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
