Summary:
The Literacy Tutor is responsible to work with school personnel to identify children who would benefit from small group support in literacy, based on STAR Assessment data and implement Save the Children's literacy program components with fidelity to multiple small groups per day. Although this position is grant funded by Save the Children, the Literacy Tutor is an employee of the school District and directly supervised by District staff. Training, technical assistance and support regarding program implementation will be provided by Save the Children Staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in all training related to the components they will be implementing.
Assist with organizing and maintaining program materials and space.
Assist in administering all required assessments.
Work with program coordinator and school administration to identify children who would benefit from small group assistance in literacy.
Implement STC’s literacy program components to fidelity and use resources provided.
Incorporate one hour of planning time into weekly schedule to analyze progress monitoring data and plan for appropriate instruction. Lesson plans should be submitted weekly.
Be mindful of diverse learners and make adaptations to create an inclusive learning environment.
Submit attendance to the Program Coordinator as designated by program policy.
Collaborate with Save the Children’s Lead Associate to foster and understanding of our child safeguarding and safe protection policies through ongoing training and technical assistance.
Work closely with all programs staff to ensure consistent reporting of child safeguarding risks and incidents; strong methodology in the field for managing risks and following reporting protocols; supplying proper documentation in support of incident reports as needed and collecting data on child safeguarding risks and efforts to mitigate risks in the program environment.
Make intentional, regular efforts to remain up-to-date on key local and state child-welfare policies and reporting protocols.
Follow all key local and state child-welfare policies and reporting protocols.
In association with program training and technical assistance, efforts, update/ communication.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Ability to maintain a substitute teacher license through NMPED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred
Good communication skills and customer service skills
Work well with others including teachers and school administrators
Manage and maintain classroom environment keeping students safe and engaged in activities
Excellent organizational skills, and recordkeeping
Physical/Job Requirements:
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.
Safety and Health:
Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
Completed and cleared background check
Pass drug test if required for position
Knowledge and compliance with district and school Safety Plans
Equipment/Material Handled:
Multimedia equipment, including current technology
Equipment/materials relevant to the job responsibilities
Valid driver license and insurable by district if necessary
