What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School English Teacher (Grades 9-12) position at Nixa Public Schools?
Primary Tasks & Major Activities
Teach Communication Arts. Responsible for planning lessons, carrying out effective instruction, and evaluating student progress toward learning goals. Accountable for creating a positive and productive classroom learning environment. Must be able to work effectively as a member of a Professional Learning Community in a team environment. Participate in District and Building Professional Development opportunities. Implementation of High School Communication Arts curriculum and engaging students in high levels of learning. Communicate effectively with parents on student comprehension and progress. Support High School building improvement plan.
Educational/Skills/Experience Required
Current Missouri certification in English or Language Arts 9-12 with a preference of a Masters degree in English or a Masters degree with 18 higher education credit hours in English. A strong knowledge of End-of-Course Examinations, Missouri Learning Standards, and effective instructional strategies. Willingness to collaborate with peers. An interest in coaching or sponsoring extracurricular activities desired. Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education.
