What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Technician II position at Nisqually Indian Tribe?

NATURE OF WORK: The Library Technician II is able to competently fulfill the job duties and responsibilities of the Library Technician I, and takes on heightened responsibility within the department. These added duties and responsibilities include preparing, organizing, and entering items and materials into specified content management systems (CMS), developing Finding Aids and LIB Guides to increase patron understanding and use of the collections, providing reference services to patrons, maintaining the processing and clerical supply inventory for the department and preparing requisitions for department purchases. This position is technical and detail-oriented, requiring specific computer, software and cataloging knowledge including the use of Content Management Systems, data and record entry, data formats, content standards, and controlled vocabularies.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain collection statistics, analyze trends, and create reports as required.
  • Perform original and copy cataloging of library materials.
  • Perform data and record entry on specified CMS.
  • Digitize analog records using established workflows and standards.
  • Prepare requisitions for department as needed.
  • Prepare and process materials.
  • Daily shelving and periodic inventorying of collections.
  • Develop and update finding aids and guides for collections.
  • Assist patrons in using the facility, resources, and available technology.
  • Register patrons and update user profiles as necessary.
  • Check material in and out of the library using applicable software.
  • Answer questions and provide information to patrons about library programming, services, facility, and policies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of library materials, resources, and services.
  • Support fellow library staff with programming efforts.
  • Collaborate with other programs and divisions on culturally competent programming.
  • Participate in development and tracking of collection development goals and objectives;
  • Maintain and track collection development budget.
  • Attend professional development trainings and conferences as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of standard library procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard cataloging practices.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.
  • Knowledge of Dewey decimal classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings, PastPerfect, Softlink (Oracle) and controlled vocabularies.
  • Knowledge of Nisqually Indian Tribe history and culture.
  • Ability to maintain and compare basic statistics and provide analyses.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, diplomatically, and in a culturally relevant manner with patrons, staff and employees, and the community.
  • Ability to adjust to procedures unique to these tribal facilities.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree AND certification in two of the following areas Library Science, Records Management, AND
  • Two years' experience providing library information services OR an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Must be willing to travel to attend meetings, training, or conferences as required.
