NSORNA Nisqually's Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires all individuals who have ever been convicted of a sex offense to register with our Public Safety Department. This is true whether or not you have to register with another jurisdiction.

NATURE OF WORK: The Education Director is responsible for the administration of the Education department. This position provides leadership and direction for education programs and staff. This position has overall responsibility for ensuring the goals and objectives of the education programs serving the Nisqually community are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overall management and supervision of all education programs.
  • Serve as the senior management expert for preschool through higher education (P-20) education related initiatives.
  • Set mission and vision for the department in order to support Tribal priorities.
  • Establish and ensure short and long term objectives and goals for the department are met.
  • Ensure efficient and effective utilization of personnel, funds, materials, facilities, and time.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain organizational policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Monitor program deliverables, perform program audits, and implement corrective action plans.
  • Assure consistent interpretation and application of laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead, manage, and develop subordinate program managers; ensure appropriate training and development of department staff.
  • Develop performance measures and procedures and evaluate the performance of education programs.
  • Lead the development and management program budgets, funding sources, and work plans to ensure fiscal responsibility and budget accountability.
  • Oversee the development, preparation, and submission of contract and grants applications.
  • Lead and develop administrative processes and procedures for grant and other funding opportunities.
  • Determine grant compliance requirements; coordinate with other agencies to establish and maintain grant eligibility.
  • Represent the department to the Nisqually community; facilitate communication and maintain effective working relationships between the department and Tribal Administrators, committees, staff, the public, and outside agencies.
  • Provide status reports on significant activities and programs; advise Tribal Administrators on requirements or recommended actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of tribal laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of management principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of human resource management.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge of program planning, coordination, contracting, budget and grant preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting processes and effective budget management practices.
  • Knowledge of education administration principles, practices, and procedure
  • Knowledge of adult and youth learning principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of available educational and social services programs, resources, and services.
  • Knowledge of Native American educational and cultural needs.
  • Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in negotiating competing interests.
  • Skill in the use of common office equipment such as a personal computer, fax, and multi­line phone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal Administrators, committees, staff, the public, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to plan, establish goals and objectives, and implement policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and write contracts and grants.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate, perform and complete multiple duties and assignments.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to motivate, manage, and supervise.
  • Ability to effectively lead staff to achieve goals and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Education Administration or a related field.
  • Five years of professional level experience in education administration including two years of program management experience.
  • Must have experience leading, managing, and supervising staff.
  • Must have experience managing and developing programs and budgets.
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver's license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe's insurance policy.
  • In accordance with Tribal policy, individuals who are employed in or are being considered for employment in positions that will have regular contact with or control over children or adults-at-risk are required to submit to a character investigation which includes providing a signed declaration of all pending and prior criminal arrests and charges, state and national background checks, fingerprint records check, personal and employment references and verification of other information provided by the applicant.

Salary : $88,504 - $97,594
