What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Formulation Scientist, Automotive OEM Coatings position at Nippon Paint Automotive Americas?
NPAA is seeking a seasoned formulation leader to help us meet demanding customer timelines, deliver flawless dispersion performance, and uphold our position as the market leader in automotive OEM coatings.
Impact You’ll Make- Transform lab-scale pigment dispersions into high-performing prototypes.
- Analyze dispersion quality for use in coating formulations (e.g., stability, particle size, color metrics).
- Partner with operations to meet manufacturing process requirements and readiness.
- Stay current with supplier innovations in raw materials and equipment.
- Lead and support scale-up trials both on-site and off-site.
- Assist dispersion manufacturing operations within NPAA as needed.
- Deliver concise reports and management summaries aligned to project schedules.
- BS in a science discipline with 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Proven track record in pigment dispersion.
- Working knowledge of common dispersing methods and horizontal mill operation.
- Commitment to safe handling of paints and chemicals (PPE compliance).
- Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to learn.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office basics (Word, Excel).
Build trusted relationships with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional peers. Provide business process and technical training to chemists, and contribute to new business pursuits and internal process enhancements.
