Executive Director – Nioga Library System, Lockport NY
The NIOGA Library System is seeking a strong library advocate and innovative leader to serve as its next Executive Director.
The right candidate will be ready to listen, learn, and promote the needs of the System's 21 member libraries, growing the already strong library culture within System's 1,409 square miles.
With a total service population of over 300,000, NIOGA Library System maintains a shared catalog of over 1 million items. Serving both rural and urban libraries, the Systems continually seeks new ways to stretch library dollars through shared efficiencies.
Reporting to an 11-member Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for the oversight of a 1 million dollar plus budget.
Under broad policy guidance and direction from the Board, the Executive Director's duties include:
· Coordinating mission-centered and timely action on the system Plan of Service, all legal and regulatory filings, and annual budget;
· Maintaining and directing appropriate action on evolving system member needs with respect to automation, delivery, training, and identify opportunities and plans for shared efficiencies; and
· Maintaining and cultivating awareness, connections, and advocacy on local and state-wide matters of importance to member libraries.

TITLE : Executive Director
Full-time, Salaried
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervisor: Board of Trustees
Reporting to the NIOGA Library System Board of Trustees (the "Board"), the Executive Director of the NIOGA Library System leads the system in providing innovative, forward-thinking services to the System's 21 member libraries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate mission-centered and timely action on the system Plan of Service, all legal and regulatory filings, and budget.
Maintain and direct appropriate action on evolving system member needs with respect to automation, delivery, training, and identify opportunities and plans for shared efficiencies.
Maintain and cultivate awareness, connections, and advocacy on local and state-wide matters of importance to member libraries.
Achieve and maintain excellent communication with members, stakeholders, partners, and leaders on all aspects of System operations.
Supervise, directly or indirectly, all other System employees in a manner that promotes accountability, innovation, and professional development; assemble and promote growth of system's workforce in a manner that will meet membership's evolving needs; support the Board in maintaining positive labor-management relations.
Develop and maintain systems to help the Board effect its routine responsibilities.
Maintain awareness of evolving policy needs and as warranted, provide guidance to the Board on necessary policy development and revisions.
Maintain, manage, and ensure positive and productive relationships with retained professionals serving the System, including but not limited to: accountant, attorney, benefits advisors, payroll services, IT services, insurance, contractors.
Consistent application of professional ethics and regulatory criteria.
Required Qualifications
· Master’s in Library Science from accredited college or university;
· Eight or more full years of professional library experience in libraries or systems of libraries of recognized standing satisfactory to the commissioner, at least five years of which shall have been in an administrative capacity;
· Ability to obtain required certificate within three months of hire.
Ergonomic Considerations
· Must be able to communicate via telephone or teleconference;
· Must be able to physically visit member library locations within area of service;
· Must be able to generate high volume of written correspondence on routine basis;
· Must be able to communicate with wide array of personalities and leadership styles.
· Salary range based on experience ($98,000.00 to $105,000.00)
Pay: $98,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
