Support the Standard

The Lakeside High School 1st Assistant Wrestling Coach helps provide a safe, disciplined, and supportive experience for student-athletes participating in the wrestling program. Working under the direction of the Head Wrestling Coach, the assistant provides instruction, supervision, and encouragement while helping students develop the skills, confidence, accountability, and resilience that wrestling demands.

This position is an opportunity to contribute to a program that represents Lakeside High School with integrity and sportsmanship. The successful candidate will be a steady, positive presence for student-athletes and a collaborative member of the wrestling coaching staff.

Salary: The salary range for the position is: Min. $3,468 to Max. $4,380. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Collective Bargaining Agreement and Salary Schedules can be found on the For Employees page of the Nine Mile Falls School District website at 9mile.org. Nature and Scope of Position:

The Lakeside High School 1st Assistant Wrestling Coach assists the Head Wrestling Coach in the instruction, supervision, and development of student-athletes participating in the high school wrestling program. The position supports practices, competitions, safety, equipment, eligibility expectations, and team operations in accordance with WIAA, league, district, school, and athletic-department requirements.

Position Reports To: Devin Bauer - Athletic Director, in coordination with the Head Wrestling Coach

Season: Winter 2026/2027

  • Assist the Head Wrestling Coach with the Lakeside High School wrestling program.
  • Provide instruction and supervision for assigned student-athletes and team activities.
  • Assist with planning and conducting practices that emphasize safe wrestling techniques, skill development, conditioning, strategy, and age-appropriate competitive preparation.
  • Coach individual student-athletes in wrestling skills and techniques necessary for successful participation and competition.
  • Provide appropriate supervision during practices, competitions, travel, weigh-ins, and other assigned team activities.
  • Promote accountability, respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture.
  • Maintain appropriate team discipline and model professional, respectful conduct.
  • Communicate participation expectations, team rules, and eligibility requirements to student-athletes as directed by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
  • Prioritize student safety and follow district procedures for injuries, concussion management, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, emergency response, and reporting concerns.
  • Communicate with the Head Wrestling Coach regarding practices, competitions, athlete development, student concerns, and program needs.
  • Follow all applicable WIAA, league, district, school, and athletic-department rules, procedures, and expectations.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete required district and WIAA training.
  • Assist with equipment, uniforms, inventory, upkeep, facility use, and team records as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, coaching staff, school personnel, and administration.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification before the start of the season.
  • Ability to complete required training, including:
    • Concussion Management Training
    • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Training
    • WIAA-required coaching education and clock hours
    • District-directed training, including applicable Vector training
  • Ability to meet Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint-clearance requirements.
  • Minimum age of 19 at the time of hire, consistent with WIAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of safe and effective wrestling techniques, fundamentals, and athlete development appropriate for high school students.
  • A high degree of knowledge of wrestling.
  • Ability to instruct, supervise, and communicate effectively with student-athletes.
  • Commitment to student safety, positive relationships, sportsmanship, and equitable treatment of students.

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful experience coaching wrestling at the high school, collegiate, club, or comparable competitive level.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and instruct young athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive, lifelong character traits in students.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and successful wrestling program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with coaches, families, school staff, and administration.
