Nine Mile Falls School District is seeking a dedicated Elementary Long-Term Substitute Teacher to step into a full-time classroom and provide consistency and care by providing high-quality instruction for our students. This role offers the opportunity to create a safe, engaging learning environment for the students of Nine Mile Falls Elementary and to be a steady presence during an important time in their learning.

Terms of Employment and Salary:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Nine Mile Falls Education Association (NMEA) and Policies and Procedures of Nine Mile Falls School District. The annual base salary range for the position is: Min.$54, Max.$104, Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Nine Mile Educators Association Collective Bargaining Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a prorated part of the sick leave allowance Each employee shall earn three (3) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their FTE.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.

For long-term substitute or temporary leave replacement assignments, terms of employment, salary, and benefits apply in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the duration of the assignment and subject to applicable eligibility thresholds. Certain provisions of the CBA do not apply to long-term substitutes, as defined in Article I, Section 2(B).

Work Location: Nine Mile Falls Elementary

Nature and Scope of Job:

The long-term substitute teacher will provide consistent, high-quality instruction in a 3rd Grade Classroom, fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. This role includes delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and supporting students' academic, social, and emotional growth. The teacher will collaborate with staff and families, maintain classroom routines, and promote equity, belonging, and positive learning experiences for all students.

Position Reports To: Heather Gamboa, Principal

Classification: Certificated Teacher

Work Day: 8:45 am – 3:45 pm 2025/26 School Year Contracted Days

Anticipated coverage needed March 9, 2025-May 29, 2026 (potentially until the end of the school year)

Primary Job Functions

  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans and instructional materials that allow students to utilize and practice higher-level thinking skills.
  • Communicate with regular classroom teacher regarding planning and progress of students, as needed.
  • Provide for large and small group and individualized instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development, and provide appropriate feedback on work utilizing methods such as assigning and grading classwork, homework, tests, and assignments.
  • Continually assess student progress, and implement effective lessons to meet individual student learning needs as determined by student assessment data.
  • Provide opportunities for students to self-reflect and track progress toward learning goals.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
  • Provide a safe, positive, and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the policies and procedures of the school building and the district.
  • Work as an effective member of the grade level/course team to evaluate and improve student learning.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress in a timely and professional manner.
  • Self-reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional performance to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly to reach maximum effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements (Traits, Education, Certifications, Experience, Training, physical requirements, etc.:)

  • Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with Appropriate Endorsement.
  • WSP/FBI Clearance.
  • Maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site and regular work hours.
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures.
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in analyzing assessment data to identify student needs and adjust instruction accordingly, ensuring all students receive targeted support.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and staying updated on current educational trends, research, and best practices.
  • Willingness to reflect on teaching practices, evaluate effectiveness, and adapt instructional approaches to better meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Ability to use a variety of teaching strategies, which may include cooperative learning, constructive instruction, or additional research-based facilitation.
  • Skills to motivate students and communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, and planning curriculum and willingness to work with the grade level team.
  • Work with paraprofessionals, volunteers, and/or student aides to provide an effective school program, address the needs of individual students, and be supportive of parent volunteers in the classroom.
  • Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations.
  • Knowledge and Experience working with the PBIS model.

Environmental and Physical Requirements

  • Climate-controlled indoor environment with or without air-conditioning.
  • May be required to supervise outdoors or outside of school grounds (field trips).
  • Escort students to the lunchroom, library, recess, and or field trips.
  • Managing the activity level of Elementary school-aged children.
  • May be required to stand for several hours at a time.
