Job SummaryThe Lead Data Scientist & AI Researcher will serve as the principal technical expert responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced machine learning, predictive analytics, and decision-intelligence systems that power SmartScale AI’s small-business optimization platform.This role integrates research-grade AI methodologies with production-level data science workflows to build forecasting models, optimization engines, AI-driven automation tools, and scalable analytics infrastructure.The position requires specialized knowledge in machine learning, statistical modeling, experimentation, causal inference, reinforcement learning, and large-scale data architecture. The employee will lead the technical roadmap, supervise junior engineers or contractors, and contribute original research insights to advance the company’s AI capabilities.Duties & ResponsibilitiesAI & Machine Learning DevelopmentDesign, architect, and implement ML models including time-series forecasting, Random Forests, Gradient Boosting, clustering algorithms, and reinforcement learning systems for dynamic decision optimization.AI Research & InnovationConduct applied research in intent recognition, attention modeling, human-behavior prediction, and AR/VR-assisted cognition to inform future SmartScale AI product lines.Evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art LLM frameworks, embeddings, and agentic AI architectures into the platform.Publish technical white papers, research summaries, or conference submissions that document findings and advance company IP.Experimentation & Causal InferenceDesign and analyze A/B, multi-armed bandit (MAB), and quasi-experimental tests to evaluate model impact.Implement uplift modeling, heterogeneous treatment effect estimation, and counterfactual simulation frameworks.Develop KPI frameworks and causal-impact measurement pipelines for SMB operations.Data Engineering & InfrastructureArchitect scalable ETL, feature pipelines, and ML training pipelines using Python, SQL, Spark, Databricks, Airflow, or equivalent systems.Oversee data warehousing, data governance, and model observability systems.Lead development of dashboards and monitoring tools for internal use and client-facing analytics.Product & Technical LeadershipTranslate complex analytical insights into product requirements for engineering teams.Define the technical roadmap for SmartScale AI’s forecasting, optimization, and agentic automation modules.Supervise contractors, external vendors, or cross-functional collaborators involved in engineering and research projects.Present findings to the Board and external partners, supporting commercialization of AI features.Develop and deploy predictive inventory, demand forecasting, and pricing optimization algorithms for small-business clients across retail, wellness, warehousing, and service sectors.Build anomaly detection and operational intelligence systems to identify inefficiencies and automate insights.RequirementsMaster’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in machine learning, data science modeling, or applied AI research.Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role with a focus on Generative AI projects.Extensive knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Spark MLlib, and related tools.Strong programming skills in Python, Java, R, SAS, VBA, Bash (Unix shell), with experience in SQL for database management.Expertise in big data technologies including Hadoop, Spark, ETL processes (Talend), and data mining techniques.Hands-on experience with natural language processing (NLP) techniques and linked data integration.Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS for scalable model training and deployment.Background in database design principles and experience working with large-scale datasets.Knowledge of quantum engineering principles as they relate to AI innovation is a plus.Excellent analytical skills combined with the ability to lead complex projects from conception through implementation.Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly across teams and stakeholders. Salary : $114,000 - $149,000
