Special Education Teacher – Cognitive Impairment

Full-time position for the 2026-2027 school year
Reports to: Eastside and Director of Special Education (or designee)
Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic Mild Cognitive Impairment Special Education Teacher. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community. Must be able to create an appropriate learning environment, provide specialized instruction and educational programming for students with disabilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Certified to teach in the State of Michigan
- Cognitive Impairment (SA) endorsement
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (non-prioritized):
- Utilize a variety of research-based intervention strategies, continually assessing student response to intervention and make modifications as needed to ensure all students are successful
- Act as a case coordinator by preparing for, participating in, and ensuring IEP implementation according to the school process
- Monitor and document student progress on IEP goals
- Ability to align student goals and objectives with district and state standards
- Must be knowledgeable in strategies that will meet the academic, developmental, and functional needs of students
