Summary:
The Shipping and Receiving Lead supports daily shipping, receiving, packaging, and material movement activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for monitoring customer ship dates, due dates, carrier schedules, and changing priorities to help ensure materials and finished goods move accurately and on time.
This position requires someone who can stay organized under pressure, reprioritize work as conditions change, communicate clearly with multiple departments, and help keep the shipping and receiving team focused on daily priorities. The Shipping and Receiving Lead should be proactive, hands-on, team-oriented, and able to identify potential issues before they impact customer deliveries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
- Monitor customer due dates, ship dates, order priorities, and carrier pickup schedules throughout the day.
- Reprioritize tasks as needed based on changing customer needs, production output, material availability, staffing, or shipment urgency.
- Communicate shipment status, delays, shortages, priority changes, and material issues to supervisors, customer service, production, purchasing, quality, and other departments.
- Provide daily direction and support to shipping and receiving team members.
- Help build a team-focused environment by promoting communication, accountability, urgency, and cooperation.
- Ensure outgoing shipments are picked, packed, labeled, staged, and documented accurately.
- Verify packing slips, shipping labels, bills of lading, customer paperwork, and other shipment documentation.
- Coordinate with carriers, freight companies, and internal personnel to schedule pickups, deliveries, and shipment changes.
- Receive incoming materials, supplies, components, customer-owned product, and finished goods according to company procedures.
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading.
- Identify and communicate damaged, incorrect, incomplete, or non-conforming shipments.
- Ensure received materials are properly labeled, entered into the system, and moved to the correct location.
- Support inventory accuracy through proper transactions, material movement, labeling, and documentation.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scales, scanners, computers, and other shipping and receiving equipment as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient shipping and receiving area.
- Identify workflow issues, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Train, coach, and assist shipping and receiving employees on procedures, priorities, safety expectations, and department standards.
- Follow all applicable company procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, customer requirements, and ISO procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, materials, or logistics experience required.
- Prior lead, coordinator, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing, machining, aerospace, industrial, or fast-paced production environment preferred.
- Strong ability to monitor due dates, schedules, priorities, and workload throughout the day.
- Ability to reprioritize quickly and make sound decisions when conditions change.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with production, customer service, purchasing, quality, supervisors, carriers, and team members.
- Strong team-building skills with the ability to motivate, guide, and support others.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to identify issues before they affect shipments or production.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to read and understand packing slips, purchase orders, bills of lading, shipping documents, customer requirements, and work instructions.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use ERP/MRP systems, shipping software, scanners, email, and Microsoft Office or similar programs.
- Forklift experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
This position requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday. The employee may be required to lift and move materials, boxes, containers, or equipment up to 50 pounds. The role may require extended periods of standing and frequent movement between shipping, receiving, production, inventory, and staging areas.
