Role Description The Estimator role is a full-time, on-site position based in our Central Division. The Estimator will review project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to prepare detailed cost estimates and proposals for deep foundation, earth retention, and ground treatment projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing quantity take-offs, developing cost breakdowns for labor, equipment, and materials, and coordinating with engineering, project management, and procurement teams to validate assumptions and pricing. The Estimator will solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes, help identify project risks and value-engineering options, and support bid reviews and negotiations. This role also involves maintaining estimating databases and tools, preparing clear documentation for handoff to operations, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating practices.
Qualifications
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports, and perform accurate quantity take-offs.
- Experience with construction cost estimating, including labor, equipment, material pricing, and subcontractor quotations.
- Proficiency with estimating and productivity software (e.g., Excel-based tools, specialized estimating software) and strong general computer skills.
- Knowledge of geotechnical or heavy civil construction (deep foundations, earth retention, ground improvement) is highly beneficial.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under bid deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with engineering, project management, procurement, and external partners.
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple bids simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent experience in estimating will be considered.
- Prior experience as an estimator or in project engineering within construction or geotechnical sectors preferred.
