Overview
Nichols Brothers Boat Builders is hiring Welders and Shipfitters to join our growing shipbuilding team in Freeland, WA.
We build and repair a wide variety of commercial vessels, including tugs, ferries, fire boats, fishing vessels, barges, passenger vessels, and other specialty marine vessels. We're looking for skilled tradespeople with experience in welding, shipfitting, metal fabrication, structural steel or aluminum, or related trades.
This is a permanent job that does not offer per diem. Some relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
What You'll Do
Welding
- Perform structural welding on marine vessels, including hulls, decks, superstructures, pilothouses, and other vessel components.
- Perform MIG/FCAW and Stick/SMAW welding in various positions.
- Weld panels, assemblies, modules, and completed vessel structures.
- Perform grinding, weld preparation, air-arc gouging, and weld repairs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and weld symbols.
Shipfitting & Fabrication
- Layout, cut, form, fit, and assemble structural components for marine vessels.
- Fabricate and assemble hulls, decks, superstructures, modules, and other vessel structures.
- Read and work from engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Use hand and power tools, plasma cutters, torches, saws, rollers, presses, shears, and other fabrication equipment.
- Perform tack and minor welding using MIG and Stick/Arc welding processes.
What You Bring
- 3 years of welding, shipfitting, shipbuilding, metal fabrication, or related experience preferred
- Experience with MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Ability to perform basic math and measurements
- Structural fabrication or assembly experience preferred
- Marine or shipbuilding experience is a plus
- Related welding, fabrication, structural, or metalworking experience is encouraged to apply
- High school diploma/equivalent or vocational training preferred
- Ability to work safely in a shipyard environment, including heights, confined spaces, noise, and varying conditions

Pay: $33.90 - $38.00 per hour
