Class Title: Elementary Reading Intervention Teacher

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  The Reading Interventionist is responsible for providing individual or small group instruction to students who are academically struggling in the classroom. This position will also help develop literacy skills and increase the reading capabilities through literacy materials, reading programs, and a wide variety of resources and collaboration with parents and other teachers. This position supports student achievement in the area of English Language Arts, with special attention to reading. This position is responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

  • Provides high quality instruction to individual students and small groups.
  • Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level.
  • Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices forindividual and small groups of students.
  • Uses identified research-based interventions focuses specifically on individual student needs.
  • Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.
  • Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress.
  • Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress.
  • Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups.
  • Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress.
  • Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed.
  • Provides input for program development.
  • Supports implementation of assessment tools and data management systems.
  • Attends the appropriate trainings to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Provides staff development opportunities.
  • Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the School SBDM Council and the School Board for the district.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students.
  • The Board of Education delegates to the person holding this position the reasonable authority necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities listed for this position.
  • Is familiar with and incorporates the use of technology in daily tasks.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Adheres to the professional code of conduct.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to apply instructional strategies on differentiation.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of collaboration practices, team teaching practices, and special education.
  • Ability to collect data and make course placement recommendation for students.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with school administrators, staff, students, and families.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

- Certified Teaching Certificate and experience in reading education or related field.

- Experience in elementary education, preferably in reading and language arts instruction.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills.

- Knowledge of Senate Bill 9 and its implications for literacy instruction.

- Familiarity with Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention strategies.

- Experience with data analysis and intervention planning.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

185 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.

Salary : $42,162 - $71,340
