As a special educator, you will be required to meet all Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) guidelines and state mandates. As a special educator, you will be influential in students' lives, since students will apply what they learn to their future endeavors. Performance Responsibilities: Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and objectives to ensure student progress. Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum, assignments, assessments, and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs. Collaborate with general education teachers to support student access to the general education curriculum in inclusive settings. Conduct ongoing assessment of student performance using formal and informal data to guide instruction and monitor progress. Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, evaluations, and compliance records. Participate in evaluation team meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, manifestation determinations, and eligibility meetings. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, programming, and educational needs. Implement positive behavior supports and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when appropriate. Foster a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student independence, self-advocacy, and social-emotional growth. Coordinate and collaborate with related service providers, counselors, administrators, and outside agencies to support student success. Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and assistive technology to improve student achievement and access. Support students with transition planning, including post-secondary education, employment, independent living, and community participation beginning at age-appropriate levels. Prepare students for state and district assessments by providing approved accommodations and ensuring compliance with testing protocols. Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with federal and state regulations. Participate in professional development activities and remain current on special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Supervise paraprofessionals and provide guidance regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and student support. Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator or Director of Special Education.
