Plumber – Facilities Maintenance Department

About the Role
The NFTA is looking for an experienced Tradesperson Plumber to join our Facilities Maintenance team. In this role, you'll work across multiple NFTA properties performing a wide range of plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance tasks. You'll handle everything from routine plumbing work to supporting major building projects, often working independently or in small teams.
This is a hands-on role for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in quality work, safety, and problem-solving.
What You'll Do
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including sewers, drains, sinks, toilets, water lines, and hot water boiler systems
- Support and collaborate with other skilled trades on maintenance and construction projects
- Accurately document time, materials, and job details using a computerized work order system
- Estimate labor and material needs for jobs when requested
- Research materials, obtain quotes, and prepare purchase requisitions per NFTA procedures
- Make recommendations on materials, specifications, and installation methods
- Coordinate work orders with Engineering, Facilities staff, tenants, and users
- Work independently to complete tasks safely, correctly, and on schedule
- Act as a lead plumber on projects involving multiple trades when needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Strong working knowledge of plumbing systems, including water, gas, air, and steam lines
- Experience with domestic water, storm water, and sewage systems and related fixtures
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Commitment to workplace safety
- Willingness to respond to off-hours call-ins and work alternate shifts when required
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 5 years of proven experience as a Plumber
- Valid New York State driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge, including CBP (Customs & Border Patrol) seal and access
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach, climb ladders, crawl, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift 20–40 lbs regularly and push/pull up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Exposure to dust, fumes, noise, vibration, and moving equipment
- Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods throughout the workday
