Orthopaedic Supported Discharge Team

Specialist Physiotherapist - Band 6

Full time (37 hours) Permanent

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our dynamic Orthopaedic Supported Discharge Team. This multidisciplinary team is based within the Orthopaedic wards at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh but provides short term rehabilitation to Orthopaedic and Major Trauma patients, promoting flow by facilitating early supported discharge from the acute setting. The team includes Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Health Care Support and Admin.

You will be required to work in the community, providing rehabilitation to an orthopaedic population across the City of Edinburgh. Therefore, it is a requirement that you have the means to travel between patient’s homes in Edinburgh. The post holder will liaise with wards during the discharge planning stage and complete day of discharge holistic assessment which will allow them to create a bespoke treatment plan based on individual needs.

Candidates must display evidence of clinical experience of work in a variety of core rotations, as well as showing a particular interest in Orthopaedic/Major Trauma Physiotherapy. Ability to prioritise and manage a complex caseload is essential, as is clarity of communication and well-demonstrated organisational skills. Experience of supervision, mentorship and appraisal of other staff members / students is essential. Previous experience of community working is highly desirable, as is an ability to use technology systems such as; outlook, Microsoft teams and Microsoft Office applications.

The Physiotherapy department and Team Lead Occupational Therapist will support staff development through appraisal processes, supervision and CPD opportunities.
