Whistleblowing and Speak-up Manager

NHS Grampian is seeking a highly efficient and compassionate Whistleblowing Manager to join our Corporate Communications team. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role to lead and oversee the handling of staff concerns, promoting a culture of openness and ensuring colleagues feel empowered to raise concerns safely and confidentially.

About The Role

As NHS Grampian’s Whistleblowing and Speak-up Manager you will oversee a confidential, impartial and supportive service for staff across NHS Grampian who wish to raise concerns or seek advice. You will ensure compliance with National Whistleblowing Standards, ensuring guidance, support and effective mechanisms are in place across the organisation to respond effectively to concerns.

You will oversee and advise on a diverse and often complex concern caseload, working autonomously and supporting the Whistleblowing Coordinator, Executive Leads, senior managers, and colleagues across the organisation. You will lead on and oversee promotion of the Speak-up Ambassadors, analysing data to identify themes, to ensure organisational learning and improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure support, training and succession planning for the Speak-up Ambassadors.
  • Offer clear, accurate advice in line with the National Whistleblowing Standards.
  • Oversee, support and advise the Whistleblowing Coordinator with all aspects of their role.
  • Support initiation and closure of Stage 2 investigations.
  • Ensure accuracy of case records and confidential case management system.
  • Present quarterly and annual whistleblowing reports for governance committees and the Board.
  • Deliver awareness raising sessions on Speaking-up and the Whistleblowing standards.
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained while sharing themes that support organisational improvement.

Essential Knowledge, Skills And Experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and complex issues.
  • Strong written communication and analytical skills, including report writing and presenting information to varied audiences.
  • Be able to oversee a complex caseload and prioritise under pressure.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, psychological safety and continuous professional development.
