An exciting opportunity has arisen for 1 Nurse Coordinator to join the School Immunisation Team. The School Immunisation Nurse Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, leading and managing a team of registered nursing staff and healthcare support workers enabling the delivery of the national public health immunisation programmes to school aged children and young people across NHS (GG&C) Greater Glasgow and Clyde and aligned (HSCP) Health and Social Care Partnership areas. Our service is fundamental in taking forward the Public Health Agenda which aims to maximize the health and wellbeing of all school aged children and young people and also contributes to the reduction of health inequalities as well as achieving National and Local health objectives through the focus on preventative care.

Required

This post aligns to one of our four school immunisation service areas. The service model is structured across four teams where the post holder may be required to cover across the NHS GG&C HSCP teams:

  • Renfrew and Inverclyde Team
  • East Renfrewshire and South Glasgow Team
  • North East Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire Team
  • North West Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire Team

This post requires PVG Scheme Membership / Disclosure Scotland Check

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Vale Centre for Health
  • Permanent Contract
  • Part-time position
  • Shift pattern for this post is Monday - Thursday 0830-1630, Fri 0830-1500, Annualised hours work 35 weeks from August to April
  • Please note the pay is annualised for 12 monthly payments, equating to 24.12 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

  • The postholder is responsible and accountable, working with the School Immunisation Team Lead and other immunisation lead nurses (schools) for the ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation of school immunisation programmes. These are driven by national policy and guidance, with local planning led by School Immunisation Team Lead/Public Health.
  • The postholder will work in partnership with colleagues, education, individuals, the local community, health improvement staff and other agencies to ensure safe delivery of school immunisation programmes, taking account of national and local strategies.
  • As part of the supervisory responsibility the postholder will be familiar with and ensure implementation of local and national policies, procedures and guidelines pertinent to all staff within their area of responsibility in the pursuit of the highest standard of care.
  • The postholder will delegate work to appropriate team members.
  • The postholder will have an understanding of the clinical budget and its application in the planning and implementation of care in the area, in order to meet service aims and objectives.
  • Although the postholder does not have the budgetary responsibility for school immunisation programmes it is his/her responsibility to highlight any issues/risks within the team and the wider clinical area.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential

  • 1st Level Nursing Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Post-registration qualification suitable for registration on Part 3 of the NMC Register or able to demonstrate advanced practice skills in immunisation
  • Knowledge and understanding of national policy drivers for immunisation
  • Experience of working to Patient Group Directions and Patient Specific Directions
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relating to immunisation
  • IT skills-word processing/email/internet
  • Excellent oral, written and visual communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work to challenging deadlines
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Effective leadership/management skills and experience
  • Previous experience of planning and delivering immunisations/immunisation sessions
  • Proven track record of working in partnership with Education
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Awareness of national policy and legislation within Children’s and Young People Services
  • Car driver, driving within city/countryside environments

Desirable

  • Completion of e-learning course ‘Promoting Effective Immunisation Practice’
