This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

The post holder will contribute to professional leadership, management and governance of the Occupational Health Service within NHS Lothian. They will work with the Chief Nurse, Director of Occupational Health and Safety, Consultants in Occupational Medicine and appropriate others in the enhancement and strategic development of Occupational Health as well as the development of any new innovations based on the needs of the service. They will work collaboratively with statutory and non-statutory agencies and provide expert professional knowledge.

The Lead Occupational Health Adviser delivers strategic clinical leadership and oversees the operational management of the Occupational Health service, ensuring the provision of safe, effective, and high-quality, evidence-based care throughout the organisation. The role holds responsibility for the daily management of Occupational Health nurses and technicians, including oversight of skill mix, supervision, workload distribution, and continuity of service delivery. The post holder manages complex clinical cases, upholds strong clinical governance frameworks, and ensures adherence to professional standards, statutory obligations, and NHS policies. Additionally, the role includes responsibility for supporting and covering external business and income-generating activities.
