About the Role
The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Staff Attorney to join the Division for Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) Legal Unit in our Laconia District Office.
As a Staff Attorney, you will serve as onsite legal counsel, representing DCYF in child protection matters. You’ll play a critical role in shaping legal strategies, interpreting laws, and advocating for the safety and well-being of children and families across New Hampshire.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent DCYF in child abuse/neglect cases, termination of parental rights, guardianship proceedings, and administrative appeals.
- Provide legal counsel and training to Child Protective Service Workers (CPSWs).
- Prepare legal pleadings, conduct legal research, and develop litigation strategies.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, court personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Advise on the interpretation of state and federal laws, rules, and DCYF policies.
- Maintain communication with supervising attorneys and DCYF leadership on litigation matters.
Qualifications
- Education:Â Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Experience:Â Minimum of four (4) years in the active practice of law.
- License: Must be a member in good standing with the New Hampshire Bar Association.
- Knowledge:Â Strong understanding of judicial procedures, child protection laws, and court practices in NH.
