Overview
NGT Group LLC is seeking an experienced Directional Driller to support underground utility installations including fiber optic conduit, electrical systems, and ITS infrastructure. This role is responsible for operating directional drilling equipment, coordinating with crews, and ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient bore installations on roadway and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment for underground installations
- Install conduit for fiber optic, electrical, and ITS systems
- Read and follow bore plans, utility locates, and project drawings
- Track bore path, depth, and alignment to avoid conflicts
- Coordinate with locator and ground crew during drilling operations
- Perform pre-trip inspections and basic equipment maintenance
- Identify and avoid existing utilities (gas, power, water, telecom)
- Work in roadway environments, including traffic control zones
- Complete daily reports, bore logs, and job documentation
- Minimum 3–5 years of HDD / directional drilling experience
- Experience with fiber optic or electrical conduit installation
- Ability to read plans and understand bore profiles
- Knowledge of underground utility locating practices
- Experience working on DOT or municipal projects preferred
- Strong safety awareness and field decision-making skills
- Vermeer / Ditch Witch directional drills
- Tracking/locating systems (Subsite, DigiTrak, etc.)
- Mud mixing systems
- Mini excavators and support equipment
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Work in active roadway and construction zones
- Night work and emergency call-outs may be required
