I. POSITION SUMMARY
A. Coordinates and supervises the activities of team members in the safe and efficient application of a tungsten carbide coating to tooling substrates in Coating and a nickel-plating finish to dies that are used in the extrusion processes in Plating by utilizing techniques by utilizing techniques established through on-the-job training, work instructions, key point sheets, standard departmental practices and safety protocols. The Technical Leader (TL) also communicates with area management regarding production, safety and personnel matters. Also, the TL complies with specific security protocols required by the Department of Homeland Security.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
A. Promotes safety, quality, efficiency and productivity in the department and serves as the primary link between team members and area management
B. Guides, directs and assists team members throughout all processes within the department
C. Handles acutely hazardous chemistries according to approved and established safety and environmental procedures
D. Handles corrosive chemistries and performs bath make up duties according to approved recipes
E. Communicates the requirements and expectations of area management to the team members
F. Verifies, corrects and maintains process and quality data in the company’s information systems
G. Teaches troubleshooting, problem solving and team building skills to the team
H. Teaches team members about the area’s immediate processes and also all prior and successive processes relating to our product
I. Makes recommendations to area management concerning disciplinary actions and performance appraisals
J. Assists maintenance and engineering with projects and with routine repairs, as needed
K. Contributes to the hiring process through: interviews, area tours and informational dissemination, including recommendations to area management
L. Informs and consults with area management concerning work related and personnel issues in a timely manner
M. Reviews the company’s internal email and calendar system several times per shift
N. Monitors inventory levels and maintains the appropriate inventories
O. Works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists
P. Oversees PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities, including scheduled end of shift duties; and kaizen activities
Q. Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials
III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Technical Leader (TL) has supervisory responsibilities and direct reports.

V. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required
A. Required Education and/or Experience and Background Check
1. Must be able to successfully complete all required job training.
2. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
3. CRC Bronze or above.
4. Minimum 6 months experience manufacturing
5. Must pass 40 hour HAZWOPER certification (provided by NGK).
6. Must pass Homeland Security level background check.
7. Must pass the Chemical-terrorism Vulnerability Information (CVI) training
Preferred
1. Associates degree or equivalent technical experience
B. Required Language Skills
1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
2. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers.
C. Required Mathematical Skills
1. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
D. Required Reasoning Ability
1. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
E. Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with spill response procedures.
2. Experience with chemical awareness.
3. Experience with equipment mechanics.
4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2013.

VII. WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Clean room practices are employed.
VIII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE
A. Face masks are required per CDC guidelines, effective 10/1/2021
B. Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property.
C. Safety goggles and/or full face shield are required while performing certain job duties.
D. Task appropriate gloves (e.g. nitrile gloves, multi-poly gloves, or fire retardant gloves) are required while performing certain job duties.
E. PVC aprons are required while performing certain job duties.
F. Full-face cartridge respirators and chemical resistant Tychem suits are required while performing certain job duties.
G. Half mask cartridge respirators plus goggles are required while performing certain job duties.
H. Regularly scheduled testing is performed for: lung capacity (i.e. spirometry test), vision, and respirator fit.
