NFI Massachusetts Inc., a nonprofit human service agency, is currently seeking a Peer Specialist/Case Manager for its Foundations for Families program co-located in the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.

NFI’s Foundations for Families program provides home based treatment, community-based outreach, comprehensive assessment, counseling, case coordination, and crisis intervention services for youths and families within the Department of Mental Health, Department of Children and Families and Mass Health systems. Services and service intensity are highly individualized to meet the unique and varying needs of each youth/family.

The Peer Specialist will provide home-based treatment for youth and families. The peer specialist’s primary responsibility is to support youth in finding their voice in their treatment to strengthen self-identity and self-advocacy. The peer specialist helps youth to identify strengths and build competencies through engaging them in a range of activities.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct intakes for new referrals to the program. 
  • With guidance from youth, family, caregivers and other supports creates a strength-based client focused assessment and treatment planning.  
  • Provide individual and family therapeutic supports as defined by client’s service plan. 
  • Work collaboratively with the clinician and/or other members of the treatment team. 
  • Acts as liaison between program, family, outside service providers, the court, and referring agency as determined by the treatment plan. 
  • Facilitates and/or participates in case conferences and treatment meetings as appropriate. 
  • Advocates for the client’s needs both within the program and with external agencies. 
  • Helps to identify client’s social and recreational needs within their home community.  
  • Helps and increases daily life skills such as money management, public transportation and resources in their home community. 
  • Helps to identify client’s post-secondary goals such as job training and/or college readiness. 
  • Obtains resources for post-secondary options and builds relationships with potential employers in the community. 
  • Writes necessary progress notes, aftercare plans, service plans, and reviews as defined by the program contract. 

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates and/or Bachelors preferred.
  • Candidates must have lived experience with a mental health condition and be in recovery.
  • Peer Specialist Certification preferred.
  • A flexible schedule is required. The position is primarily Monday through Friday with afternoons and evenings comprising most of the direct time with youth/families; however, weekend work may also be necessary.
  • High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
  • Travel is required. Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle is a must.

Salary: Starting at $21 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
