1932 Capital Management, Inc. is a single-family office (“FO”) that provides private wealth management and financial services to a family that runs one of the largest privately owned 3rd party logistics companies in North America. The FO’s services are bespoke and demand the highest levels of discretion and attention to detail.
The FO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of Investments. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the investment portfolio of the family office, which includes direct and co-investments in operating businesses, venture and early-stage, alternative investments funds and a sizable marketable securities portfolio.
The Director of Investments will report directly to the President of the FO and will help oversee all investment activity of the family. The FO is continually evolving, providing a great opportunity for someone that likes taking on new challenges, creating new processes and procedures, and prefers a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
Investment Strategy & Portfolio Management
Collaborate with outside investment consultants and advisors to maintain existing investment strategies, as well as develop and implement additional long-term strategies for individual family members, trusts and entities.
Current investment strategies include equities, fixed income, private equity, venture capital, private credit, hedge funds and direct investing.
Regularly review asset allocations for rebalancing or adjustments in response to changing market conditions and family objectives.
Gain an in-depth understanding of individual time horizons, needs and risk tolerances.
Build on existing investment research through a combination of vendors, economic experts, various databases and periodicals.
Research & Analysis
Conduct in-depth research and analysis on potential investments, including qualitative and quantitative assessment.
Stay informed on market trends, economic factors, and new investment opportunities.
Evaluate performance metrics and benchmark performance against targets and market indices.
Risk Management & Compliance
Identify, measure, and manage risks associated with the family’s investment portfolio.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and family governance structures.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies as appropriate.
Reporting & Communication
Collaborate with the FO’s Accounting and Reporting team to prepare and present regular reports to FO leadership and family members, providing insights into the performance of the investment portfolio.
Maintain clear and transparent communication with family members regarding investments and financial goals.
Communicate complex investment concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Review and summarize updates provided by managers and private investments, including following up with managers for additional information when needed.
Track and report on the financial impact of investment decisions, identifying successes and areas for improvement.
Relationship Management
Serve as primary family contact with investment advisors, consultants, financial institutions, asset managers, and industry professionals.
Negotiate and manage contracts with external advisors, vendors, and fund managers.
Serve as a point of contact for investment-related inquiries from family members and outside professionals.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor a small team of investment professionals, providing guidance and professional development.
Foster a collaborative and performance-driven culture within the investment team.
Lead relationships with outside advisors and direct external investment managers.
Administrative and Operational
Review and oversee the completion of subscription and investment documents, collaborating with legal counsel.
Coordinate with managers on new account set ups and account maintenance.
Oversee the effective investment of cash and short-term reserves.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field.
Advanced degree or certification (MBA or CFA) preferred.
Proven experience (10 years) in an investment advisory or management role, including:
Experience with large traditional portfolios consisting of marketable securities and related asset classes.
Experience with investing in and evaluating alternative investment funds, including private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, and private credit.
Experience with direct investments in early stage (venture) and/or later stage (growth and buyout) operating businesses.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to perform in-depth financial analysis and due diligence.
Experience training and supervising analysts and staff.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners.
In-depth knowledge of financial markets and investment strategies.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Location & Flexibility:
The position will be located at the FO’s office in Camden, NJ.
The role will require 4 days on-site with 1 remote flex day.
The role will require occasional travel.
