What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Intern position at nEye Systems?
nEye.ai, a well-funded optical switch startup, is poised to revolutionize the future of data centers. nEye’s MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches (OCS) eliminate critical bottlenecks in AI processing by enabling direct optical connections among thousands of GPUs and memory units. The company's SuperSwitch is an ultra-low power consumption, high radix, compact chip-scale design, offering hyperscale data centers enhanced performance, efficiency, and scalability.
About the Job:
nEye is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Process Intern to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of semiconductor/microfabrication processes in a cleanroom environment. This internship provides exposure to hands-on fabrication, process integration, and cross-functional collaboration, offering valuable experience for students pursuing advanced degrees in engineering.
Key Responsibilities- Support nEye process engineers in the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of fabrication processes.
- Operate fabrication tools such as lithography, PECVD, PVD, and etching systems under guidance.
- Assist with process flow design, validation, and documentation.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret process data to support yield improvement and root cause analysis.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to support the development of the next OCS generation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in efficiency, quality, and reliability.
- Maintain adherence to safety protocols and best practices in all engineering activities.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and manage tasks independently.
- Hands-on cleanroom experience (preferably UC Berkeley’s Marvell NanoLab or similar university/industry facility).
- Experience with semiconductor/microfabrication process flows.
- Practical knowledge of fabrication tools such as lithography, etching, PECVD, and PVD systems.
- Familiarity with process optimization techniques (e.g., Design of Experiments, Six Sigma).
- Knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and CAD tools is a plus.
- Exposure to state-of-the-art semiconductor and nanofabrication processes.
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and researchers.
- Development of technical, analytical, and project management skills.
- Hands-on contribution to impactful process engineering projects, including OCS development.
- Mentorship and networking opportunities with professionals in the semiconductor and nanofabrication industry.
- Potential consideration for future full-time employment based on performance.
This is an hourly rate position. Starting rate will depend on, and be commensurate with, relevant experience, skills, training, education, and the ultimate job duties and requirements.
