Santa Clara, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/30/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/29/2025

Our team is seeking an accomplished and highly driven Lead Hardware Engineer to guide all hardware design activities, from initial concept to the final stages of high-volume manufacturing. This role centers on architecting and delivering high-reliability boards for cutting-edge telecom applications. The position demands a unique combination of deep technical expertise in PCB design, power supplies, and analog circuits, paired with proven leadership skills to manage both internal teams and external design/manufacturing partners.

You will be instrumental in implementing complex mixed-signal systems, managing the full lifecycle of ASIC designs, and fostering a culture of excellence and quality. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced setting, possesses a meticulous approach to problem-solving and failure analysis, and is committed to delivering robust, reliable products that meet the stringent demands of the telecom industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Design: (1) Oversee the end-to-end design and development of high-reliability, mixed-signal PCBs for telecom applications, including multi-layer boards. (2) Architect and design critical hardware sub-systems, such as controller boards, high-efficiency power supplies, and high-performance analog drive circuits. (3) Ensure all designs meet stringent requirements for signal integrity, power integrity, thermal performance, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI).
  • Team & Project Management: (1) Direct and mentor a small team of internal hardware engineers, providing technical guidance, design reviews, and career development support. (2) Act as the main technical point of contact for external contracting firms, overseeing detailed design, layout, and manufacturing. (3) Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for hardware development projects.
  • Manufacturing & Quality Assurance: (1) Own the process of transitioning designs from prototype to production, collaborating with manufacturing partners to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT). (2) Supervise board fabrication and assembly, guaranteeing the highest quality standards are met at every stage. (3) Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations for hardware issues during prototypes, qualification, and in the field, and implement corrective actions to improve product robustness.
  • ASIC Programs Oversight: (1) Program Manager for ASIC Development done by a combination of internal and external resources.  (2) Coordinate with internal team and ASIC design firms, providing technical oversight and ensuring the ASIC design meets all system-level requirements. (3) Coordinate internal team’s role in the full lifecycle of mixed-signal ASIC designs, from initial specification and architecture through silicon validation and integration into the final product.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in hardware design, with at least 4 years in a leadership or senior-level role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and bringing to production complex PCBs, including high-speed digital, analog, and power electronics.
  • Proven experience designing for high-reliability applications, preferably in the telecom, aerospace, or industrial sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Expertise in debugging, failure analysis, and utilizing lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Experience managing external design, layout, and manufacturing contractors.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations relevant to telecom equipment (e.g., Telcordia, NEBS).

Preferred Skills
  • Direct experience with the full ASIC design flow, either as a designer or in a managerial capacity.
  • Proficiency in power supply design, including DC-DC converters, LDOs, and power integrity analysis.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, including stack-up design, impedance control, and termination schemes.
  • Experience with a variety of analog circuits, including amplifiers, filters, and sensor interfaces.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal verification methodologies and co-simulation.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills, with the ability to present complex technical topics to both engineering and executive teams.
