Job Overview
We are seeking a Data Center Installation Technician to support rack and cage installations within a data center environment. This role involves hands-on work including equipment placement, cabling, power connectivity, testing, and documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and basic tool proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify racks, cages, and related equipment prior to installation
- Position and securely install racks or cabinets on raised floors or slab environments
- Assemble cage structures including panels, doors, locks, and hardware, ensuring proper alignment and security
- Perform rack and stack activities including bolting, unbolting, and working in confined spaces such as under cages or crawl spaces
- Install servers, switches, PDUs, and other hardware components into racks
- Route, organize, and dress power, copper, and fiber cabling to maintain airflow and accessibility
- Connect power and network cabling to appropriate circuits, patch panels, and cross-connects
- Label racks, equipment, cables, ports, and rack units accurately according to standards
- Conduct basic testing, verification, and power-on checks after installation
- Document installation activities including serial numbers, changes, and completion status
- Follow all data center safety, security, and access control procedures
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with floor layout planning, measurements, and placement validation
- Ensure proper clearance and alignment of installed equipment
- Support cage build-outs and ensure readiness for operational use
- Participate in de-installations, upgrades, and moves/adds/changes (MAC work) as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience or familiarity with data center environments and cabling standards
- Ability to lift and handle hardware equipment safely
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and physically demanding environments
- Basic proficiency with installation tools (hand tools, drills, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with rack and cage installations in a data center
- Understanding of power distribution, structured cabling, and labeling standards
- Experience working with remote teams or network operations
Work Environment
- Physically active role requiring standing, bending, lifting, and working in tight spaces
- May involve working under raised floors or within cage structures
- Adherence to strict safety and security protocols is required
