Job Summary
Nexus Specialty Inc., a division of The Nexus Group, is looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Underwriting Assistant in the Chicago area to join the Management & Professional Liability Underwriting division. We are a fast-paced, energetic and rapidly growing MGA that offers a great opportunity for a driven graduate Underwriting Assistant interested in starting a career in Insurance. The successful candidate will be delivering high quality administrative and data entry support to the US Financial Lines Underwriting team and US Leadership team.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities
- Logging/clearing underwriting risks onto our underwriting system(s) from the submissions inboxes;
- Saving application documentation to the electronic filing system and/or document repository;
- Processing submission acceptance and declinature letters in our underwriting system(s) and emailing letters to brokers;
- Liaising with operational support team in Malaysia to coordinate submission clearance overflow;
- Ensuring our underwriting system(s) and the electronic filing system and/or document repository are kept up to date and the information is accurate and organized;
- Sending renewal reminders and ensuring Underwriters are kept up to date with the status of renewals;
- Other admin tasks such as answering phone calls, taking messages, arranging and assisting with broker appointments and travel booking;
- Regular reporting, including daily performance data and dashboards;
- Data entry checking.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Experience
Qualifications:
- Educated to a high school diploma as minimum, college or university degree desirable
Skills:
- Strong problem solving skills, organized and with good attention to detail
- Adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks within a high pressured environment, including working to tight deadlines
- Excellent time management and accurate record keeping
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain and develop good working relationships at all level
- Excellent time management and accurate record keeping
- Confident and able to work on own initiative and without supervision or as part of a team
- IT literate with strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, especially MS Excel
Knowledge/Experience:
- A minimum of one year of experience in an administrative or data entry role
